Design Narrative
Since its inception in the early 1960's, Crystal City has evolved from an underdeveloped, industrial area into an efficiently planned modern complex of office buildings, residential high-rises, hotels, restaurants, and retail venues. Named to create a memorable visual identity, the lobby of the area's first residential development, Crystal House, was adorned with a crystal chandelier as part of a cohesive branding campaign to attract residents and businesses alike. Although the original chandelier no longer remains, the history of the area's birth lives on through the name. The concept for the Meeting Room renovation will pay tribute to the locale by infusing abstracted aspects of crystals and the architectural geometry of the building into elements throughout the design.
Harmonious Structure. The captivating essence of crystal facets and refractions is translated into geometric carpet patterns, serving as the foundation for the entire space. The linear designs add structure, while allowing vibrant colors in abstract artwork to burst with energy and excitement. Custom carpet throughout the space utilizes Durkan/Mohawk’s Definity product, selected for its sustainability attributes and long-term performance. Crisp whites and soft neutral hues adorn the walls and live harmoniously with the iconic architecture of the open atrium. Painted drywall ceilings utilize Graphenstone paint, chosen for its environmentally responsible and occupant-friendly properties. Streamlined light fixtures and the interplay of high contrast elements infuse the interior with interest and create an air of quiet sophistication. The blend of modern crystal-inspired geometry, warm metals, rich wood tones, and artistic moments create a fascinating dynamism.
